Looking for a good solution.

Will be bringing our stuff from AZ to TX. The Dodge will pull the 5th wheel.
Have a 14x7 Interstate cargo trailer, it will not hold all our stuff, so renting a truck to load also. Cargo trailer has 2 5/16 coupler on it, and a 7 pin wiring connector. I have heard from someone that hauls a lot of different trailers that there is like a clam shell that will go on the 2" ball on the rented truck to let it fit the 2 5/16". Don't think the rent truck has 7 pin, since I won't need the trailer breaks, as it will only have a golf cart in it. is there a wiring adapter that will convert what ever the rental truck has to the cargo trailer. Other option is rent a flat bed trailer, get the cargo trailer on it, and secure it and pull that way.
Any good, ideas from anyone?

Yes, there is a an adapter that will let you use the 4 pin, so you can have lights. You should be able to pick one up at NAPA and maybe some other auto parts stores. Good luck and be safe on the trip.

Wouldn't it be safer to just get the 2 5/16" ball for the $10 ???

And while you are at walmart you can pick up the 7 to 4 adapter.

I will use the 2 5/16 ball off our truck. It will be pulling the 5th wheel. Still looking if a box truck can have the 2 5/16 put on. Most of the 2" the truck rentals have are welded on. Some rentals have cargo vans and 1/2 ton P/U trucks for towing. Just takes a lot of checking and finding someone that knows what they have. "Yea, I guess you could do it." is not a good answer to me.
Thanks all for the help and suggestions.

I wa faced with that some time back. I never found the clamshell ball adapter. I rented the truck, took it to the site to load and ground the weld off the ball. I put my ball on, pulled the load home, then replaced the rental ball. I used a small buzz box to land some bird poop like splatter, then shot a bit of black paint on it. The guy I returned the truck to had known that I was thinking of pulling my trailer. He even went out and looked at the ball. Said all was well.

Check behind your bumper, there may already be a 4 pin connector there that the 7 pin is plugged into. Mine is that way.
