Long Haulers--Hot Shotters
i will give the mfg a call and see if he will "replate" it. Something tells me they won't want to do it.
I have not registered the trailer or got the first state plate yet. had a 30 day temp plate when i picked it up---still have to fork over another 6% sales tax to the state to get it registed.

should not be a problem for mfg. to derate a trailer(no liability as less than engineering weight). rerating back to oem weight would be. just be sure you would be comfortable with the lower weight. remember to dry weigh it with the living quarters ready for the road.

ok: in ca. the they only care about the mfg. plate as far as plate weight(if it says 10k it is 10k) if it is 10k +1lb it is cdl time but you are already ok there. check with Mi. if they will accept plate weight to lic. trailer. isn't this fun. some states you can register any weight as long as it does not exeed the mfg. rating. i wish you were in ca.(not really) so i could give you hard advise.

herb, Somewhere on the trailer is a metal plate that says the GVWR, VIN, and GAWRS on it. You need them to change this so the total between your truck and trailer are 26000 exactly (or 25999 if you feel more comfortable).
Double check your truck - I thought 05's were 12,200 not 12,300 GVWR?
The gvwr on the title/cert of origin is most likely not important for your purposes. I don't know about Michigan - it is pretty standard to have commercial trailer registered weight be 0000 - Truck registration must carry the weight. Just changing the registered weight will not help. The metal tag needs to be lowered.

American Hauler so far are unwilling to help me out changing the plate. I originally had ordered the trailer with 5000 # axles witch would have done the job but their sales rep talked me into the 6000 axles stateing the resale would be better.
May have to find out by selling and getting another trailer---rest assured it won't be an American Hauler with this type customer satisfaction policy.

herb that is really tough - and didn't you say you are a dealer for them???? do they give any reason as to why they won't do it. it really has zero effect on them, other than possibly reducing their liability.

Those plates fall off sometimes, leaving only the stamped VIN on the frame. At least that is what happened on my 24 ft gooseneck flatbed.
