Load range G tire option for 16"'ers

Ran into this tire. It is load Range G (14 ply). 3305 pounds per tire @ 105 PSI.

http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/Ptn...tion=PtnDetail

Only $130.

While theload range is less than a 265/75/16 (3415#) this is probably safer up to 3305#.

I bet those will wear better than any other 16" on the market.....ya think? I wonder why the "lower" weight rating being that it's a 14 ply G rated?
Anybody know what the 7.5 X 16 is equivilant to in metric lingo?

They cost more but you can still get the Goodyear with a 3750 at 110 pounds. Take note that they also have a very thin tread, 14/32. The best mileage tire I have found is the Michelin XPS Rib, I got well over 100,000 on the last set. This set cost me 173 each at Wallmart.

Which Goodyear are you talking about? I am also in the proccess of getting new tires and I am currently looking at the michelin ltx m/s. I want to keep 265/75/R 16, Load Range E (3415). I need something with some mud traction (i dont like getting stuck when i hook up to my trailer in the pasture!) but i spend most of my time on the road. It doesnt look like they make the XPS Rib in the size for me. Also, i though 14/32 tread depth was pretty common???

matthopp,

Stay away from the LTX M/S. I had them on as OEM's. 22K and that was pushing it. They could have stood to be replaced at 20K. 100% on-road for that 22K. I get better mileage out of BFG M/T's even with my foot to the floor.

I just got a set of Pirelli Scopion STR's for $87 each at Discount tire. Then I got two $50 rebates so all said and done was $400.22 with 60k warranty and road hazard. They are LT265/75/16 E. Thought that was a real good deal.

Wow, my LTX M/S have almost 50k on 'em and have about 30% tread left. A lot of that was with a 4k pound camper in the bed on Alaskan roads all over the state.
I've never rotated them, and keep 80psi all the time....all wearing even. Planning to keep them on 'til spring and most likely go with another set of the same....even though I do like the more aggressive look of the BFG M/T, the Michelin's have done real good.

I'm with Moose on this one. My truck came from the factory with the LTX A/S and I replaced them at 46k with the LTX M/S (they could have went to 50-55k, but I was getting ready for a trip pulling the 5er to MS). The LTX M/S's have 56k on them now and would still pass inspection. I run 65-70psi front and 70-75psi rear all the time. I ran the A/S's at lower pressures when not towing, plus I didn't rotate them like I should have and I think that caused them to wear a little quicker than the M/S's I have now. I also think that a few less burnouts, drag races, and doh-nuts would increase the mileage on them too! I will buy the LTX M/S again when I need tires.

Click here for comparison chart and note which tire has the highest tread wear score.

Keep in mind the Goodyear 14 ply is designed for trailer use only. I have had them on my 5th for a year and have more confidence than previous tires that were near gross loaded. I have had 3 RRear tires on the trailer go and don't like the results(damage to the trailer)

I was pretty shocked to read poor mileage comment. I have the stock A/S and i am starting to see the wear bar at 65K. I rotate every 6K and keep tires @ 80 psi (i never know when i have to put a load on the truck.) Tires are wearing very evenly. I just want something with a bit more traction for the few times i hit wet grass/mud in the pasture and thought the M/S will do the trick.

LTX's were oem on my 95, 97 & 99 CTD's and the first set lasted about 65,000 miles mostly highway driving with a stock trailer. Second set lasted about 40,000 miles on chunk rock and gravel. Third and fourth sets were Cooper AT's, getting about 45,000 miles. When I got the 01 CTD, on advice from my tire dealer, I tried, a set of Kelly CSR's. 75,000 miles....highway, chunk rock, sand, snow, ice whatever. 70-75psi, front and back year round. Second set now have 68,000 miles and still counting. Rotating every 12,000 miles.

If you need traction off road, dont get the goodyear g rated tires. I ran them on the back of my truck which weighed in at 7450 with gooseck, ran 80psi for 3500 miles with that weight on stock rims and never had a problem. I only use them for heavy hauling. They are definately built right tires. Expensive though. 200 a pop. THese tires never gave me a problem pulling the shop up from nebraska through canada into alaska at 43k gross. Definately worked for what I needed it to do.
