What does a Jacobs Ebrake cost + installed by a Dodge dealer? on an 03...

 

The Dodge folks state if you are towing over 10K with a manual tranny & the diesel, then the exhaust brake is a MUST!

i towed few diffrent tralier sizes and wiegh too i have cummins and ihc power in my fleet and all of them have exhaust brake on it and it really save myself alot of money for brake mantince cost and i use it every day both empty and loaded and warm up too it do help to warm up faster it take less time in cold weather

i will post here my trucks :

89 f 250 7.3 5 sp 570,000 miles
92 ihc dt-466 235 hp turned up to 315
95 f 350 with bt5.9 turn up to 275

all of them have exhaust brakes on it

it work the best for 5.9 over 2000 rpm the same with 7.3 and dt-466 little more ealier about 1600 rpm go up near 2500 max it really have good effect with exhaust brake and few time some peoples thought my brake light dont work until near stop and finally hit the brake .

but this is instering part one cop did stop me saying my brake light dont work and i show him by riding my rig and he say holy **** ( sorry i try to keep it clean here ) and he got a exhast brake for his cummins truck now and he is very happy now

Dealer quoted me $1630, Cummins $1540 for the Jacobs brake, independent shop was $1000 for a Pac brake. Dave Smith Motors in Kellog, ID Quoted $1400 for the Jacobs. These are installed prices.

 

My 02 jake cost 600 from the dealer. It cost 200 to install at advanced diesel in anchorage.

 

Might not be cost effective to drive up there to get one installed. I'm going to SD to get the truck and I'm picking up the 5ver in Iowa though. Save a few tax dollars that way. ;D

what part of SD? a friend had a jake installed at a dodge dealer in belfouch(sp?) at a dodge dealer for around 600 if i rember right, installed on a 98 24 valve.

 

I was quoted $700 for the brake and 280 to install in mid Michigan.

I cant even think of a Dodge dealership in NJ that I would trust to touch my Cummins. They don't even know what it is... Maybe in PA?

The Dodge dealer in Sioux Falls. That's a good price, wonder if the new ones are different. Cummins in Sioux Falls said they had never installed one on the new HO before. Might not want them to experiment one my new Ram. ???

 

Reading all the previous posts makes me curious about how my Cummins sounds at 3,000 RPM's. You see, I don't think I've had mine above 2,500 RPM's yet. It sure sounds like it's revving hard at that. I guess I'm just not used to the sound of a diesel at work??

With my engine/transmission/differential combination, I probably wouldn't hit 3,000 unless I'm about 75 mph in 5th gear. I guess my question is; is it okay to rev a Cummins near redline for extended periods? After all, 3,000 is pretty close to the max.

Do yourself a favor and get a brake. I am partial to the Jacobs and have had one for four years now. My truck just turned 129000 miles this week and my front brake pads are still like new. I pull up to 26000 pounds on ocassion and it is well worth the money. Other than a fuel pressure gauge, this should be the first option just in my opinion.

 

I concur, I purchased my truck slightly used with the jake already on it - I don't tow much at all - but the jake is still awesome ! If you do any towing or do any hill/mountain driving you will love it. I know it seems like a lot of $$, but after you will think that it was money well spent.

 

OK guys, with all this talk (again!) about Jake or engine brakes, can any of you suggest where is the cheapest place to purchase a kit ANYWHERE in the US? I will have it shipped to me and install it myself. Not too worried whether it is a Jake or Pac as both have good reports.
