Intermittent Power Loss
For several months my truck has been setting a code with the Edge EZ attached. When it 1st did it, I pulled the plug on the rear of the engine and snugged up the contacts. A few months later it started again, and I ignored it.
Last weekend on a trip, I noticed that after being on cruise control for a bit that it'd slowly start losing speed. Mash down on the foot feed and nothing would happen. Sounded like a gasser that's out of gas, but on level ground it'd maintain 45 - 50 mph. Downshift from 6th to 5th, give plenty of throttle and after a couple of seconds, power would come back and away we'd go. This happened fairly frequently thru the whole 1500 mile trip.
Fuel mileage was way down on this trip - from the usual 13 mpg with the camper to around 10. At $3.20 a gallon, (those g.d. thieves ! ! ! ) that really hurt. I also noticed a lot more black smoke than usual. When I got home, I cleared the codes - PO216, Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction - and pulled the EZ off to check it out. Started the engine without the EZ and all was well for a few seconds, then the code symbol came up on the dash again. Re-connected the code reader again, and same thing - PO216.
I'm at a loss here. I don't have enuf diesel experience to go any farther. Any ideas..........??? Thanks
Lar.

Take a look at the thread below. You may have a shorted wire.
From what I figure from the guy's posting, this is a problem with the 04.5, and 05. But it would certainly be worth a look.

Thanks, Bad Ramer Jamer, I'll check that out. P.J. & whtractor, which pump are you talking about ?? One of you says injection pump, other says lift pump. One, I could live with, the other would hurt.
I hafta do something pretty soon...truck turned 97,000 today, and the extended warranty only goes to 100,000.

I'm talking Inection, that's what the P0216 is referring to also. Trust me, I wish it was the cheaper pump, no such luck on that one Buddy.
I'm not sure what he is talking about.
