Another Intermittent Loss of Power
Hey all CTD nuts!
Here we go. I had my travel trailer on my truck pulling the 10 mile grade from the desert to San Diego this weekend. This is a huge grade for those of you that aren't familiar with it. I am about at the last mile, traveling 55 MPH, OD off, EGT at 1250, Fuel pressure at 11PSI, Comp Box on 3X3. All of a sudden I feel a loss of power, the boost guage drops about 10 psi and then all of a sudden the power and boost pressure comes right back. This loss of power lasts about two to three seconds. I continue on and it happens again and then once more. By this time I am at the top of the hill. I checked all guages and everything was normal.
I have had a similar problem when towing up a small hill in OD. I thought this was the tranny shuddering but now I don't think it was because I remember seeing the boost guage drop.
I have been unable to recreate the stutter without a load on the truck. It feels like it is defueling for a second or two. What do you all think?

If you can't find anything obvious, filters, air int hoses intercooler, wires, etc , try checking the valve adjustment. I am familiar with that pull the hard way with my F350 psd pulling my 34' RV and lost the converter clutch. Your drive train is taxed to the max and at max opperating temps plus, if the valves are closing up some they will be tight with all the heat. Also check your int air temp sender.

You do not say what your fuel pressure was doing when the power dropped, but if it took a temporary dive I would suspect a sticking bypass valve in the lift pump. If so, it is time to change the lift pump before you cook the injection pump. For information on this condition check this link: http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/inject...pfailures.html
