Ideas on "weight reduction"
I would lose as much useless weight as possible. Stock wheels are good.
I would run the fiver with little water. Put what tools uypu need in the back of the fiver as best you can, when in Canada. Anything small & heavy, back of the fiver.
The rest of the time (not BC), run as you like, as no one will proably hassle you.
You could always trade up to a 3500, solve all your problems.

I agree but the 2500 diesel is basically the same truck as the 3500. Two extra rear wheels and extra springs in the back. But most of all the little sticker on the door jamb reads more. I live in the city and this truck used to be my DD so the single rear wheels were good. It's not that the truck can't handle it, the RV is fairly light, it just has too much pin weight for BC and we have become partial to the Oakanagan wine tours....

With the wife driving I'd probably end up through the back window.
As for the aluminum flat deck idea, it appears if you remove the stock box or modify it the truck is no longer for personal use in some places and the last thing I want is attention drawn to the truck.
