How many hours is alot on a generator?
I had a Coleman 12k watt generator that had over 3000 hours before it got stolen. Smoked a little but ran fine.
My new one 12,5 kw has about 110 hours. It ran 4 days non stop during a snow storm power out last year. run great.
I also have a Wen 3500 that has a huge number of hours but runs fine. it starts almost every time on the first pull. Man that one is noisy.

we have a onan engine McGraw Edison generator in a 1978 ford bucket truck it was bought new by gte telephone co. we bought it in 1988 and showed 9,600 hrs on it. we have used it until last month when the oil dipper broke off and seized the engine up. i have it apart in the shop now it has a 0.010 over size piston in it so it had at least one overhaul with gte. we use the same dello 15w-40 as the rest of our equipment and at about 100 to 120 hrs onan had a 0.010 piston and 0.020 rings i am going to grind down the ends to get my gap where i want it . i found a 0.020 over rod. it is going to take a full day to get the crank journal round enough and smooth enough to last. what ever size it comes out i can hone the rod to fit. no one had the oil dipper the stock one is mangled but i can get the dimensions off of it to make one. if we can get another 20 years out of it i will be happy. for you i would not worry until you go over 5,000 hrs
