Hot Shot Tires
lots of them on http://unimog.net/ including a new U4000. These thing kick ****! It's only vehicle that regularly pulls H1's outta the ditch.
I haven't run anything but Firestone TransForce HT on any of my duallies for the last 5 years, and I have never gotten less than 100k on any set. I buy a full set of 6 at a time, and rotate and rebalance every 20k. Tire pressure 75lb all around. When all 6 are worn to wear bars, I replace. I run Michelin tires on the trailers because they hold up to the weight better than the Firestones, but don't wear as well . I run 85lb on the trailers.
I just passed 90K miles on my Generals. I set the pressure at 80 all around. I did put new fronts on last week only because I was getting close to the limit for commercial. 2/32" I still had 7/32" but that was looking skinny. LOL My rears are all at 8-9/32" and will replace them next month. I used the Michelin LTX for years...then I went to TOYO M55's and I netted 120K miles from both sets and still has some tread. However, the TOYO was not friendly on ice. I will stick with the Generals now because on ice they are siped nicely for some grip and I can get them for 135.00 each at the Walmart in Pendleton OR. 235/80R17's. Cheapest place I found. They charge 7.50 per tire for mounting/balancing/rotation/warranty and valve stem. My cost per mile with the TOYO's was 6 cents. LTX with the cost I was paying was 11 cents and the Generals are under a nickel per mile...Since I travel into OR every 4-6 wks this tire deal is good for me. I looked at the 19.5 route but the Generals at this priced canned that plan.
Be safe out there.
I did not rotate the Generals. I did rotate the others. I will rotate the new set and see what that nets.
Scotty
p.s. You'd be surprised how much the pressure changes on tires. When loaded the rears can actually slip on the rims to let a bit of air out...at first I thought yeah right...tell me another one...then when I started checking...I found I was losing a few psi a month. Now I check them every trip.

When I had the CTD's (four of them on the farm) I started out with Michelin LTX, went to Goodyear's Workhorse, then to Toyo and Cooper - but none of them went more than 45,000 miles. We finally ended up with Kelly CSR's, which averaged 65-70,000 miles without any problems at all. Comparably priced at Costco for all it was the best deal around at $105 tire mounted. We kept the old tires for tree protectors.
I got just short of 100k on the factory tires. I have ran Michelins in the past on my other dually and got 100+k out of them, but they are EXPENSIVE!! I did some homework and Firestone's seem to do real well on mileage too, so I did a set of them and got 6 for $950 or so tax, installed, life time balance and free rotation. Michelins would have been $1400 or so. So far 30k on them and they are doing great.
