hitch question...
hitch question...
Guys
I have seen these type of hitches before,
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...hp/photo/10383
My question is what is the deal with the little ball? some have two ***** and they dont look like 1 and 7/8 *****, are they for weight distribution hitches? or just for show (which i doubt) surely they have a purpose and i cant figure out what it is..
Just FYI my towing setup is quite simple, I have a dual purpose pintle, with a welded receiver tube on my rear bumper.. I also have the 1 7/8 ball and a 2 5/16 ball on receivers, and if i must, a big one inch diameter shakle, d ring or clevis, whatever its called on a receiver...
Primary reason that brings about that question..
Thank you guys!
Tx

The second little ball is for an anti sway unit (aka, a long shock absorber mounted between the hitch and trailer.) At least that the what I've seen them used for on the little pop up campers.

On my dads equilizer hitch this was to add additanal sway control. It is like a brake that slides on a bar. This is just adding more friction to the trailers turning action.
The reason for this is, while towing at highway speeds it limits the amount of fish tailing a trailer can do. But allowed you to still turn.
The amount of fishtailing on my dads 94 26' bumper pull Sandpiper trailer was very scary. As soon as we added the sway brake the fishtailing stoped. Before this he had to pull at 45 - 50MPH. after he was back up to 65. We don't think the trailer was balanced very well. The trailer did ride level.
