Hide a ball?

Has anyone tried the hidaball type gooseneck ball hitch? I had a permanent(threaded shaft w/ball tack welded on top) hitch put in the ton truck. I need one for my ride, in case I should need to go rescue the horses and trailer sometime : I'm wanting one that I can flip over, take out or whatever, so I can haul a duck boat or well,.....anything needin a flat surface. Is there any slop in the hitch of this type?

I have a Putnum Lock n Load (used to be call Putnum Popup). I have had it in two of my Dodges and works great. No slop at all and good for 25K lb towing capacity.

http://www.putnamhitch.com
Love mine and works well for a flat floor.

Mine is made by Hidden Hitch and folds over flat. You can see pics of it in my album on page two under dieseldud4x4's pics and hobbies. Works real well.

Re:Hide a ball?

I have found that there are several differnt kinds of "hide a ball" Quality S makes one for a cost of about 125-150$, but it requies alot of buildup on the frame to make it work. B&H makes one that bolts to the frame like a reciver hitch so to speak . HTe only thing that you see is the hole where the ball is when it is flipped over the store it. That application only requires a 3 inch hole to be cut into your bed, and it is locked by a pin which is accessable from under the wheel well. To use it you puul the pin and unlock it and the flipt around, and when yo dont need it you pull the pin, take it out and flip it over and the bed is now flat again. If you look in magazines like "tralier life" you should be able to find the info on B&h.

Good luck.If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will get back to you.. on the email please put a subject or it will be disregarded.

Re:Hide a ball?

I just put in a Cody gooseneck ball. One hole in bed floor, ball has a spring latch on it - you just pinch it pinch and twist and lift and then turnover and place in hole - flat floor. Went with this one since it was the only one around that people had experience with. Works well so far. Pics with comments on members photos page 24, under MrBilly.

Re:Hide a ball?

My last truck had the thread-in one like yours so I know what you mean. I have the B&W turn-over ball on my duelly to hall the hoe works great -- no slop. I recently bought the 5th wheel adaptor to pull 33 footer . Just pull handle, remove ball, insert 5th hitch , cinch down & go. When I'm not pulling I have a totally un-obstructed bed for material runs.

db

Re:Hide a ball?

I have the B&W turnover ball hitch. I LOVE IT! It leaves a flat bed when I'm not using it, and looks pretty slick, too. I've had a few compliments on it, and it was relatively easy to install. It took a little longer than the instructions said, but it turned out real nice. I would post a pic, but there are good pics at turnoverball.com. It runs about $235-$250, but IMHO it's worth every penny. I'll let you know after I'm done towing across the country in two weeks.
-SFB

Re:Hide a ball?

Check out Draw-Tite.com they have 2 different types of hitches. One is the fold down model like mentioned above the other is the type I have which is the "Remova Ball". They are both nice hitches and keep all the working parts in the bed of the truck so you don't have to worry about ice or mud caking up the release levers. I believe they are both rated to 30,000lbs, mine was around $400 installed.

DB

Re:Hide a ball?

Well, I might have hit a snag with my plans. :My pickup may be too high to pull the horse trailer anyway. It sits up a little higher with the 285's. I'm wondering if the neckover might hit the bedrails toward the rear, with a little road tilt(steep driveways, etc.) I might have to re evaluate my need for a gooseneck hitch. Does anyone have a setup like this and do you have any trouble at all? DONT even suggest lowering the truck

Re:Hide a ball?

As you can see, I'm pretty much stock on my 3500. I pull a 16 foot Corn Pro often. Most of the time, I do not have any problems as long as I remember to adjust the tongue length. The trailer does ride on 10 ply 16s. Have looked at the Exiss, but have not pulled one. Good Luck, Ed
