I'm in the market for a 5th wheel toy hauler. I have the older H2 OEM wheels with 315 E-load tires. From researching, these H2 wheels have a very light load rating of 2,750 lbs. Other forums say they are rated at 3,500+ lbs.

Anyone using this set-up to pull a fifth wheel?

Since I only have a 2500 CTD crewcab 4x4, I plan to keep the trailer GVWR below 14,000 and pin weight around 2,000.

I can't help you on the wheels but I can tell you that a 14,000lb 5ver pin weight at a dangerous 17% is 2380lbs and at 22% it's 3080Lbs, 25% it's 3500lbs.

 

I'd have to agree that the pin is going to be heavier than you think but crazy as it sounds, some 5th wheels can have lighter pin weights depending on how the tanks are positioned. It would be best to just get a stronger set of rims.

 

is Firestone/Bridgestone still the only E-rated 315-70-17?

 

When I put H2's on mine, i had the same concerns but the specs I found were very good.

I will say they are MUCH heavier than my stock still rims were, which can take off your towing weight if going for max....also a real pia when doing a tire rotation.....did I mention they are very heavy???

 

Do they have the weight rating marked on the wheels anywhere? If not maybe call a dealer parts department see if they know. That's what I didn't like about the aluminum wheels on my 2002. Weight rating was garbage. On the front I about had them maxed out. Only reason the rear was not maxed out was because I had two aluminum and two steel wheels.


Or you could just use the "it'll be alright" philosophy
