GVWR concerns
GVWR concerns
All my numbers seem right in line except for my GVW. Truck's dry weight is about 7k lbs. Then I add fuel (aux tank), humans, canines, 5er hitch, and pin weight. It puts me about 400 - 450 over the 9900 GVWR.
How much of a concern should this be ???

The only way to know is to get your truck weighed. My 04.5 srw 3500 weighs 8140lbs with me and full tank of fuel. I have a ranchhand (and winch) on the front and a few tools etc. in a tool box, so my truck probably weighs a little more than yours.
Front axle weight 5020lbs, rear 3120lbs for a total of 8140lbs. 9900 GVWR.
I wouldn't worry about being 500lbs overweight, personally. DC under rates these trucks to cover their own butts. Your weakest link is going to be your rear tires so you might want to upgrade to a higher capacity tire. You can also add a Helwig Sway bar and/or air bags for added stability.......if needed.

TexasCTD - did you mean to say that your ranchand is riding on the front with the winch ? Even in bad weather ? (Just kiddin'....nice looking bumper !)
My rig weighed in, full (stock 35 gal) fuel w/me @ 8200#. My GVWR is 12,200, and even with my trailers loaded and gross of 31K I was under of the truck. As TexasCTD said, weigh your rig, check your axle weights.
The "concern" is not from a damage or safety standpoint with what you have said, (these are rugged trucks), but if you should be hauling and get weighed. The DOT likes everyone to be within their ratings (gross, gross combined, each axle, tires). You may have to adjust your aux. tank intake (just like the big rigs do sittin' on scales - they know how much a gallon of diesel weighs and only can take on what keeps them below their GVWR), or make some other adjustment in your truck cargo & gear. For example, if I want to lighten my pin weight, I can adjust the load aft on the trailer - hard to make the family and the dogs hang onto the rear bumper of your trailer, though ! That aux. tank fuel might be in the range of 360# fuel, if my memory of around 8#-per-gal is correct.
And stay away from the Flying J buffets when on the road - those can add a lot of weight real quick !
Best of luck !

I can't find my chart for GVWR, but my 2003 - 3500 dually has a rating of 12,200. Are you sure about that 9900? Sounds more like a 2500 rating. Even with SRW it should be higher than that - - - I think.

For the original poster, whats the pin weight of the trailer? 5k over GVWR may not be anything to some folks, but it might be of interest to others. 'Specially if its over the rear-end and exceeding tire limits.
gotta love the SRW's......

500 lbs is nothing. I was always 500 lbs over in my 1/2-ton and it was no problem. When I finally get the 5th wheel I want I'll I'm pretty sure I'll be close to 1500 lbs over. But I'm not scared...
400-450# over is only about 4 - 4.5%. I wouldn't worry about it. You'll still be waaaaayy UNDER the max axle weight ratings of about 5200# front, ~6200# rear.
