Mine is about 10" above my bed rails....I have mine set to have the trailer floor slightly higher in the front when unloaded that way as weight is added my trailer floor is level when fully loaded
If you set it up too low your trailer floor will be lower in the front then the rear when loaded which puts the ramp at a sharper angle and some cars will hangup on the ramp entrance
Your guide should be the trailer floor....is it level when loaded.....and remember a gooseneck will tilt sideway on uneven ground and if your too low you could contact your bed rails

I adjusted it up last night. It was level with the ground but I took it up two notches and it sounds like I have it right. I already took out my Mopar tool box with it when I took a corner so that had to come off. If I had it adjusted right the first time I don't think it would have hit the tool box. Live and learn, at least it didn't damage the truck. Thanks

I used the trailer for the first time this weekend and bought two cars just to come back with a load on it. I am very happy with the way it handled. I took it back down on notch and think I have it just right. I am looking forward to going on a long trip with it and really putting it to the test. Thanks for all of the help the past week.

What I have found pulling many different gooseneck trailers (horse and flat bed) that 6 inches is minimum and 8 inches is better.
My rig has 6 inches and just check when you go over large dip so the frame on the goose does not hit the sides or tail gate.
