Good Truck for Hotshotting??
Good Truck for Hotshotting??
I am being retired next month, and I think I want to try hauling for a while. I was looking at a Dodge on Ebay and would appreciate some input as to if it would make a good rig. The link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT Really hate to swap out my '89 first gen. So simple to maintain but thats the way it goes. Thanks for any input from any haulers and Have A Merry Christmas.

From what I've read and from talking to guys doing it, you're much better off with a class 6 or 7 truck. More brakes, better suspension, a real sleeper and so on. Something like a FL60 or FL70 Shakeliner.
Looks like one a few years old with low miles can be had in the 30k range. I hear they drive ok as a pickup, shorter turn radius than a oneton.
Good luck, RR

I'd pass on this truck . Bids are getting too high and for hotshotting you'd need more space than a single cab . With rebates and discount pricing on new trucks prices on used trucks have gone way down . Try www.trucktraderonline.com . Have you checked out hotshothauling.com ? I've seen some good buys on trucks there . I don't agree you need a truck heavier than a 1 ton . A lot of hotshotters stay under 26,000 lbs. gvw to avoid CDL requirements and having to pay fuel taxes .

I really like the 98 in NC. Low miles, sleeper, and the price is right. Looks to have a 5.9. Nice truck.
PS, I've no vested interest, just sharing.
good luck, RR
added in edit; just used the link I posted, doesn't go where I wanted, after the truck page comes up, you've got to click on Freightliner, then sort by price.

Great truck in your gallarie Blackdiesel. Surprising that the 1 ton on ebay with 4:10s gets 3+ mpg better than my 3/4 ton.
