Good Brake Controllers

What are some of the better trailer brake controllers out there. (no money for Dr Performance so don't bother with that one) The one I have now will display how much power it delivers (and adjusts that) to the brakes but it will not adjust how it uses the power, so I have stops that just easing to a stop I have full power to the brakes.

For the dollars you can't beat the Jordan Ultima. The brake pressure to the trailer is regulated by a sensing wire on the brake pedal. It brakes exactly as much as you push the pedal. No jerks, no erratic behaviour. Runs around $130 MSR. There is a new model coming out in about March that is supposed to be even better. If you can wait, I sure would.

I've got a Tekonsha prodigy and like it better than any controller I've ever had.

Ditto what they said.

If I couldn't have a Brakesmart, the Jordan Ultima and the Prodigy would be the next two I'd consider (in that order).

Is there one that can remember 2 different levels for 2 different trailers or does some of the braking features eliminate that need?

I use a RedLine variable rate controller and I love it. Smooth stops for the horses... easy to install and compared to many of the others fairly economical.
easy to hook up as well......and I trust Redline since they manufactor a large majority of the trailer brake assymblies out there.

A good controller is so easy to set you don't need to remember anything. And, you will normally touch up the setting pending the weather anyway. Jordan, Prodigy, BrakeSmart - - they are not time based, so each needs to be set for the particular trailer you are pulling for the stopping pressure you want.

If you can't afford a Brakesmart and can't wait for a Jordan, Prodigy is the next best choice. Once you use either a BrakeSmart or Jordan, you won't want to go back to the Prodigy.

I agree. I'm thinking I might trade up my old Jordan for a new one and keep the one I have now for a back up.
