GN tongue differences
GN tongue differences
I have a 2006 40' 3 axle GN car hauler, open center and today while at the tractor show sawa few PJ's with a huge tongue on them, but had less GVW than mine did. Is there something wrong with mine? Its not small by any means, but its factory rating was at 21,000, and I have it knocked down to 16,000 to be under CDL. I was just curious as to if mine is built sturdy enough-yes I do run 16k trailer weights pretty regularly.
Thanks
Thanks
I dont know why they run 12" I beams on the neck, seems a little overkill for the amount of weight they carry. I think Class 8's have 11 or 12" C channel frames and they run really heavy compared to our lil trucks and trailers/including goosenecks. Im building a trailer, slow process Im too busy, but Im using 8" channel, last time I checked it was 18 or 21lbs/ft so its pretty beefy.

Trailer neck
I have a 2000 model Circle M 26 footer with a 14,000 lb GVW. It has a 12" I-beam neck, but unlike alot of 12"necks that are made of lighter iron, this one is HEAVY. It is made the same as some of the trailers I used to build that were rated for 36,000 pounds. I used to weld for a little mom and pop trailer shop, and they built a lot of different size trailers. They made all of their goosenecks to be able to stand up to their 36,000 lb. trailer. So all of their GN's had the 36,000 lb neck, even the ones with one 7,000 lb axle. It was just easier that way, even if overkill and a tad bit more money than building several different necks.
