Those 6.0s gave the entire light duty diesel industry a black eye (4500 and under) IMHO. Im NOT going to brand bash, but I know of many businesses that bought Fords sight unseen often because it was what the upfitter designed the body for (utility boxes, ambulances, etc). The fire/ems industry built everything around the Ford. Pickup truck based tow trucks are Fords or....Fords (yes I know someone can find an exception). Now, instead of brand jumping, they are looking at gassers or going medium duty. The light duty diesel gets a black eye even though it is Ford/International's blunder.

I'm forced to drive a 2006 F-350 Crew Cab, Single wheel PowerJoke 6.0 for a company truck. Had 20,000 when I started driving it and has 56,000 miles now. Has left me on the road 3 times for various things. First, I had 2 injectors fail. Second time, the high pressure oil pump stopped and shut the engine off with no warning (I was pulling a gooseneck that weighed 15,000 lbs.) Last time, the turbo went out which meant no power and LOTS of white smoke. I was trying to blow it up at that point. Also, the power steering pump was replaced before I got it, front brakes 3 times, the dashlights work when they want to, and the transmission is starting to slip. This truck was the main reason I bought a CTD when I was shopping for my personal ride.

On the Ford forum I am on I know there's at least a dozen that have owned CTD's in the past, or currently own both.

The only ones I have seen went from newer dodges, I have never seen anyone drive a 12v and then buy a psd... My neighbor had a 7.3 and had the motor rebuilt twice and still has fuel system problems... I almost feel bad when I hear him try to start his truck for 30 mins every morning weather its 20* or 50*... I just go start my 12v without plugging it in and smile when I go back in the house to let her warm up.

I think the proof is the fact that some people can make a living selling kits to swap a Cummins into a Ford. There also seems to be a trend of people putting Duramax's into whatever. Ive even seen Cummins motors in Chevy's! Never heard of anyone wanting to put a Stroke/ or DMax in a Dodge though... must allready have the right motor in it...

That is priceless! Bad thing is that when the Ford guys start converting to cummins swaps, they will be harder to find.

At the airport I work at we have an '06 F550 equipped with dump box, slide in sander and v-plow. So far its been a great truck. Only problem was the dash cluster went out and a lot of other systems were affected(power windows, radio) but fortunately the truck was still operational. Took almost 6 months to get a replacement, apparently every single SuperDuty in our area had the same problem. In some cases the trucks were dead in the water and not operational, pretty sad if you make a living off of that truck. When we went in to get ours fixed there was about 10 other SuperDutys waiting to get fixed as well. Must have got a huge shipment of clusters in that week.

Next month we recieve our new '07 F550 fire truck. Its built with Kederman suspension so that it can drop its ride height to fit into the parkade and respond to car fires. Hopefully we don't have too many problems with it but you guys all have me worried now!

I'm not sure we can gloat too much. There are a LOT of local guys here that are totally fed up with their new 6.7 CTDs. Something in the new emmissions systems is plugging up and giving them a lot of trouble. Terrible fuel milage as well, like 12mpg empty. Used car lots are seeing a lot of guys wanting to trade off their new 6.7s for older 5.9s. Everyone's got their problems I guess.

At least they didn't lose their TRANSMISSIONS due to the extreme cold in the last few weeks like the duramax boys. Thank god for warranty ! They all have their issues , but fuel milage seems to be a big challenge for all of them. DPF delete kits are allready big sellers, 3-4 MPG to be gained on most. I;m still at 15 mpg combined avg right now.

hat Toyota dually isn't bad looking. It sure is wierd with the 8 foot wide rear bumper and all. Wonder what the price tag on those 8 lug 22.5" rims will be.

Iv got a neighbor that was asking about how I liked my 05.
Everytime I saw him, he'd make inquiries.
He has a newer 2500 with the powerjoke.
After all the inquiries, he went out and bought a superduty dually with another powerjoke.
What gets me is they tow with both trucks but dont have gauges.
I asked why, their reply was they dont feel a need for them.

I look at it like this, there are guys have been towing with the older trucks for years and years without gauges and there trucks have lasted.
