First heavy tow
First heavy tow
Made my first heavy highway tow this weekend. Must say I was impressed! Had my 1650 Oliver (8k+) and an 88' Alamo Flail mower (1.5k +) and trailer (3k -). The only problem I encountered was had to stop and remove the screen from in front of the radiator, wanted to run a little hot, . The bumper pull trailer was only rated at 10k, so I kinda wanted to take it easy. The truck had its own idea on that, wanted to be ran right around 70 mph. Seemed to work harder at 62 than at 70, bet 410's would have fixed that. Souht-eastern Ohio, so not all flat land. Also, was the first time I got to try out my Jorden brake controller, worked excellent. Smooth steady stops, no initial jerk when applying brakes.
I have been wanting to get 285's, now not sure. The truck seems awful fast now for towing? I sure wish that reverse gear was slower, takes an awful lot of slipping the clutch to back into tight areas.

Couldn't you use low range to fix that problem
If gears seem to tall, just run in 5th........
My 3.55 reverse seems pretty darn slow to me.
Not like my old Ford
I swear the thing went faster in reverse than forward! Insane with the 2.73 rear end
