Exhaust brake users...

To anyone with an exhaust brake setup. With the truck sitting still and the exhaust brake on, does the exhaust brake provide enough load on the engine as you rev it, to build any level of boost?

no. the ebrake will cause a HUGE exhaust restriction, not a load... you cant even rev the motor. my brake stuck on once, and i couldnt rev past 1k rpm,, forget boost, it doesnt want to even run.

Fill your sig out so we know what your truck is..

My truck wont even let me rev it with the EB on, shuts the EB off as soon as you apply throttle.

Why do you want to build boost at idle? Thou I can get 2-3 psi at 3K with no load.

It does not build boost but warms up in below freezing weather in about 10-15 min. to normal operating temperature. Once there, I turn the brake off.

It's not for my truck. I'm installing a Holset on a 2.0L mitsubishi diesel engine that I have. The engine is going in an eclipse. I was curious if I could build any level of boost while setting still with an exhaust brake on. (ie use it like a 2step-anti lag)

I would not apply any more throttle than needed to idle with the EB on, and then only when the coolant is below operating temp.

Load is the only way to build boost.

Can't answer about other brakes, but the Jacob's E brake kicks out the second the accelerator is touched. You can leave the switch on under normal driving. Take your foot off the go pedal and the brake kicks in about 2 or 3 seconds later. Hit the pedal, off goes the brake. The same occurred in my diesel pusher motorhomes. You can run the rpms wherever you want with the brake switch on because the brake is not activated with your foot on the accelerator.

My BD acts in the same way; you're supposed to set it up and adjust the sensitivity to the engine idle, so once you're touching the gas the brake turns off. It is certainly possible to circumvent that but I don't think it is a good idea.

What about the high idle feature on our trucks? If I have my brake on I can still use the high idle and the brake doesn't kick off till it warms up.

Correct... The EB will work at idle (std 1000 rpm, or manual 1,100 rpm) until the coolant reaches 180* then it shuts off.

This also applies to the Pacbrake PXRB. It will come on at idle but if the truck goes to high idle it will stay on. If you touch the throttle to increase the idle the brake turns off. The Pacbrake is actuated by air pressure rather than vacuum.

Correct, and IIRC it still is controlled by the ECM, so it should operated the same as the Jacobs.

The US Gear Decelerator is theoretically supposed to shut off as soon as the throttle is applied but on the one that I have, that is accomplished thru the use of a pressure pad on the surface of the accelerator pedal. I find that if I get my foot at the wrong angle, I can accelerate but the EB will stay engaged. Never tried it when in neutral to see if it would build boost but I'd doubt that it would.

I have the mopar version on my 06. As soon as you step on the go pedal, the brake disengages...

All computer controlled....
