Exhaust brake causing motor to stall

Anyone else with a manual trany have this happen with a fueing box adding more fuel to the motor? In a panic stop pushing in the brake and clutch at the same time to grab another gear with the exhaust brake on the motor will die off. Obviously in regular driving conditions you can rev the motor while between gears or just turn the brake off butt......

Wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Thanks

There is a good possibility that your exhaust brake is just choking the motor off and killing it. It takes a very minor adjustment to make a huge difference in braking power. I'm tempted to say yours is a little "tight" in the adjustment area.

I don't know if you run a brake pressure gauge but it really helps in diagnosing problems when it comes to these things. At idle, with my BD brake anyways, I shouldn't have more than 20-25 lbs of back pressure when the brake is on. Any more and the motor will start to chug and eventually die.

Hope it helps

Jeff

If it is choking the engine it has to be set way too tight... I run a backpressure gauge to see what my pressures are... over 60psi on stock springs and you are floating them...

i never set anything, but i will look into it. with my fueling box turned off it doesnt do it at all. so thats why i think its just the extra fuel causing it.....

Don't have a fueling box, but have a Pac Brake CTD 6spd - never stalled the engine with the brake - it just chugs.

You should be able to use your exhaust brake to warm up your engine at idle.

Right. it works fine and idles normally with the brake on. Its when a quick stop is had it just seems to choke the motor. Maybe choke isnt correct, more, to much back pressure with the added fuel from the box and it will bounce down to 500 rpms etc.. and sometimes die and sometimes not. just depends.

Sounds like a programming interface problem with Edge to me. Have you tried contacting Edge for their opinion?

I would like to install a brake pressure gauge with the Pac Brake. Can one of you guys direct me to a good install diagram?

TIA - CD

back pressure gauge

I put one on the truck in my sig. There should be a threaded plug on the pac-brake exhaust elbow on the top. I used a 1/8" copper tube line from the plug for about 18" to handle the heat and then used a poly line to run into the cab. I bought a cheap air pressure gauge that I have in the cab. It rattles a bit, but at least I know what kind of back pressure I have. (If the cheap gauge is accurate). This copper line does break occasionally from the vibration of mighty cummins.
