I have the 1200/12,000 Equalizer hitch. My trailers tongue weight when loaded is 800lbs (used a Sherline scale). The tension on the bars is adjustable. I talked to a guy at Equalizer and he said use a heavier rated hitch than what your tongue weight is, meaning you adjust it to what you need.
I think the 1200lb tongue weight is when fully loaded and not empty. That's 23% of trailer weight, the norm is 10-15%.
I recommend you buy a sherline scale (they are about $100) since there could be so many variables loading a toy hauler, then you will know that you have a safe tongue weight.

I'm picking up my new toyhauler on friday. I sold my Reese 12,000/1200 dual cam with my old trailer. I'm just going to use an older Reese wd head with no bars to bring her home. It's 8 miles of local roads. (3 miles then left turn then 5 and a right turn) I'm planning on buying the Sherline scale http://www.discountcampus.com/cgi-bi...tml?catid=1102 and do some experimenting with how I load my toys, water and supplies before I order another WD hitch. I'm thinking the Reese Pro in the 14,000/1,400 rating. Gonna order a Putnam receiver too.
