Alaska

There are tons of full-timing RVers website out here that talk about Alaska trips. One recent one is:
http://www.roamingamerica.com/ourstory.html
Click into their site (Main Menu) and check out the "RV Travelogues" - towards the bottom of the next page you will see entries about their trip last month - I think they are still up there. Lots of good info about road conditions, etc.
"Google" "RV Alaska" and you should find plenty of other sources.
Happy motoring!

Outdoorsman I envy you ! We lived in Palmer from April 01 to April 05....can't wait to go back. AK is an incredible place.
You said in your posts that you want to make it in 9 days, and that you want to take your time and see everything....well bud those two statements don't go together When we last took the trip, we made it in 11 days from Paxson to Rapid City, SD....took our time, but did not see everything.
Make sure you stop at Liard Hot Springs in northern BC
If you're going to be out in the woods a lot, it might make sense to read up on what you should and should'nt do in bear territory...concerning cooking, food & trash storage, and encounters/reactions.
Overall, have fun, be safe and drink an Alaskan Amber or Summer Ale for me...oh, Peanut Farm (Old Seward Hwy in Anchorage) has the best wings in town....probably for a couple thousand mile radius imo
There's some misc. AK pics in my gallery....
One other thing that works good (anywhere) is to take a piece of vinyl screen and zip tie it to the back side of the grill on your truck. It'll keep bugs from clogging your rad, and the dead ones come off easy.
Carry a spare serpentine belt & fuel filter too

moose10, that swampin rig is too cool. any stories about that or your hunt? lol

i may have not been very clear about the trip. in day one we will make it to iron mountain mi, and will leave from there bright and early and haul but till we get some miles on. maybe 24 hrs or more. maybe make it past saskatoon then we will be driving daylight only. we do not plan to stop and visit many places along the way. most important part of the trip is making it to seward so we can relaxe a day or so before she has to fly home. i am hoping to make the drive in 6 days. lots of time spent in the truck but it will be fun. how many bottles of beer on the wall when we start?

disclaimer, no alcohol while driving.

Actually we call that the Moose Rig It looks quite different now since that pic in my gallery was when we first got it. Now it's got a full cab roll cage, bench seat, rifle rack, camo paint job, and a 9' wide drilling pipe front bumper. It'll take down 12" dia. trees with ease It was originally a troop transport for the Kenyan Army, has a supercharged Detroit diesel in it, 60" tires, and a 20k pound pto winch.
I've got more pics of it on my old cpu that I'll post one I get it up & running again.
Biggest moose taken with it so far was 60"

Wouldn'tchaknowit....I just checked the "Alaska Outdoor Journal" site, and during the first 3 days of this week saw about 180,000 Reds at the counters on the Kenai.
Weatherwise, it just seems everything is a few weeks late due to the cool weather they have had. The fireweed was just coming in.
Get this...some dirtbag stole about 32 of our Sockeye from the freezers! As far as I am concerned that act is worthy of Death By A Thousand Cuts!!!
I am thinking about bidding on the lot next to my Bro's. Where is your's, and if you wouldn't mind, please PM me on it's approx. location and what a lot should cost. Thanks,
Mike

I wouldn't stress about the drive much. It's not like this crazy wild west frontier, it's a paved road with about 3 million other tourists this time of year. My view may be a bit skewed as I was born and raised in northern BC, and work near Fort Nelson, so it just seems normal. It's a nice drive, you'll enjoy it. Bear awarness would be important, don't have to be afraid, just aware. cheers

MOOSE 10 Dreaming of 60".

HAULINBUT, sorry they took your fish. almost nothing worse than a thief.

as far as the property goes it isnt ours. it belongs to my buddy. he and his wife are thinking about building cabins on it to rent. they have 9 acres i believe and i cant remember what they paid for it. from what i understand, southern exposure and views are what determines $. one 3 acre parcel they looked at was a $100,000, it has a $1,000,000 view. lol

triplenickel, no stress here. i just like to know what to expect. i am not a worry'er! (sp) lol. most of my life is spent off the beaten path on dirt roads if you get my drift.
