Dissapointing payload
the Cherokee is the same as the Commanche I believe and I went to Indiana, picked up the complete ISB275 along with some additional parts and a couple hundred pounds of engine stand that it was on. Did not squat. Little 4 cylinder worked hard but for the most part held the speed limit and got about 15 mpg.
there is a definate diff between my 2nd gen and my 3rd. i have the same trailer and 5er hitch , the 2d gen sat strait while my 3rd sits with nose up and touches the preloads. it must have softer springs. as far as ride empty or loaded, there is no noticable diff. i will be getting bags in the rear soon. BTW everyone lets me know it also, they give me the old highbeam flash at night cause my lights r in there eyes now. never happend with the 2nd gen.
That's odd Hura1,
I've towed the same 5th wheel with an '01.5, '03 and now my '05 2500. They all have 6,000 lb rated springs and all three sit the same with the 5th wheel on. Don't know why your's would be different...

I have a 01 quad cab short box and I have put 3800 # in bed of patio blocks on pallets and my truck almost rides on the overloads if you need to haul alot do what i did build a 6x12 utility trailer with a 7k axle great accessories gets lots of use Espeically since i work construction
I was really impressed with my buddy's SRW '01 F-350. He does plowing and sanding in the winter, and I've been with him coming out of the gravel pit with over 6,000 lbs. of sand, plus the weight of the sander and plow! Truck didn't sag, it just went to the overloads and stayed there. You could feel the weight, but it was nothing abnormal...drove and handled fine. It sure handled better than my Chevy Tiltmaster ramp truck (aprox. 12,000 GVW) with my father's '99 Chevy 2500 with a dump body on the back! That was a tight fit, and a heavy feeling load with that much weight up so high.

I find that it doesn't take much to move the suspension the first 2-3" but it stiffens up alot after that. I have had 100 imperial gallons of water in my box (3500#) and the truck really didn't sag anymore than the load above.
Some intial sag is the price you have to pay to have a soft riding 1-ton. I don't mind the trade off one bit.

Not sure if this makes it worse or better for comparison, but 100 imp. gallons only weighs 1000#, not 3500#. So, I wouldn't expect much sag at that weight....
