Me and a friend of mine are debating on wether its good to use cruise control when towing a trailer. Ive been towing for 8 yrs now and never had a problem. He always says that using it while towing is extremly hard on the tranny. But i dont understand because you let the tranny shift even when your not using it. SO I just dont understand. Is there something im not thinking about?

I always use cruise as long as your trans is not hunting for gears and shifting a lot you will have no problem. My truck almost never tries to downshift with the 4.10rear.
Shifting and excesive heat will kill your trans not cruising with the cruise control on. Tell him you are right.

I agree with mike but although I have used my cruise while towing with no problems, I try not to do it too often because I think I will be more alert if I'm driving manually.

NEVER!!!

Id rather control my load at all times by manually driving, To me its along the same lines and hazards of using cruise control in the rain.. Just a big no go...

It depends, If Im in light traffic on the freeway then no, empty or not. If I see no cars on the freeway for miles then I put the cruise control on depending on load and how good the asphalt is.

If I am on at least a four lane interstate with light traffic, I will use CC.
Anything else it's all manual.

I do both, and enjoy both. Each has it's time and place, but definately not when road is wet(it will spin tires on cruise) , or lots of slow traffic. You have a built tranny, so no issues there at all. Stock if you keep rpm's up to 1800+, you'd be fine also.
