A couple ???'s

I have a few ?'s about towing a 31' TT GVWR 7550(see sig for truck info.).

1) Is the pigtail plug that came in the glove comp. from the fact. all I need to hook up a Prodigy BC.

2) Will the factory hitch be enough?

3) Is a WD hitch & an Equalizer hitch the same? If not, what's the difference? $$$ IS an issue, so which one should I get?

I looked for a little while for these answers but didn't find them. Thanks for yall's advice.

Hi, I'll take a stab at this...sounds like a nice travel trailer setup, BTW! :-) To check if the pigtail you mention could be/is correct for your truck, I'd suggest cruising the manufacturer's website for the Prodigy brake controller info. I have a Prodigy myself, and am very satisfied with it. The website is www.tekonsha.com (they have been purchased by Cequent Group, a well-known electrical component supplier). There you will find a wealth of information by drilling down into Electric Trailer Brake Controls>Prodigy about the wiring/operation of the Prodigy. Just be certain all the color-coding agrees with the wiring instructions, double check everything with a 12v test light, and assuming it has the correct plug for the back of the Prodigy already, you're all set! If not, just snip it off and connect correctly. The factory receiver hitch is plenty enough, should be rated 10,000 lb weight-distributing I believe. WD and equalizer pretty much the same thing when it comes to receiver hitches, assuming you mean the snap-up type trunnion spring bars and large hitch shank. I think there is a brand named Equalizer out there, but common terminology equalizer hitch = weight distributing, yes. WD hitches are more expensive(of course!) mostly due to more components. These days nearly all the big name manufacturers are of similar quality/price. Personally I prefer Reese(probably the biggest name and consequently usually the most expensive), but everyone has their favorite. Complete new WD hitch setup is around $250-300, so all I would suggest is NOT to buy a $19.95 web special brand! ;-) Hope that helps a little, surely everyone else can chime in with their help too, so keep asking! Remember, there are no dumb questions, just sometimes dumb actions brought about by NOT asking!! Have a good one!

Yes the pigtail that came with the truck is all that you should need to hook the brake controller up.

2) Will the factory hitch be enough?

The factory hitch should be enough with a weight distribution hitch since that ups the limit of the hitch to 1,000 lbs tounge weight and 10,000 lbs total

3) Is a WD hitch & an Equalizer hitch the same? If not, what's the difference? $$$ IS an issue, so which one should I get?

An Equalizer hitch is a brand of Weight distribution hitch. The main difference between the equalizer brand and other brands is the Equalizer uses solid bars instead of chains. Reese has recently came up with something very similar.
