controler placement question

I was wondering if there is any thing behind the bolster panel that would be hit by a screw on the right side of the steering wheel. Picture of area in question.

I was under there this evening and felt a foam block back there but was wondering if something was between it and the front of the panel. Wife bought me a new Prodigy for anniversary and am thinking of mounting it there above where the current controller is for easy access. in the neighborhood of the factory screw. TIA

That's where mine is. No problem at all. The foam is just there for noise reduction I believe.

I think he is wanting to go higher with the replacement. Mine is higher, easier reach, and less chance of getting kicked.

Why not remove the bolster and look? I took my bolster off and mounted the Jordan at the kitchen table (it was raining cats and dogs...no garage). That way, you can see for sure where the screws are going.

Good luck...

Here's where mine is. I don't hit it with my knee and there is nothing on the back of the panel it conflicts with.

Mine is in the same place as staarma's, on a 97, no issues there either.

update

Here is the finished mounting. Thanks for the help guys, also thanks to the person (can't remember handle) that gave me the idea to mount into the dash.
How far it sticks out of the dash

Easily misses the knees

That panel is actually designed to absorb the impact of your knees in a crash. That might be a bad place to mount it. If you have a crash, your going to crush your knee. That foam is part of the system. I beleive your owners manual says not to mount anything or modify it.

I have my controller where you initially had yours.

Not to worry too much. Although solidly mounted enough for useage the bracket is actually mounted using only the screw that is above right. So.... in the unfortunate event of me being in a situation where my knee contacts the controller it would continue into dash unimpeaded by foam or solid bracketry. It should act just as it would have prior to the new addition or at least very similarly.
