Read the thousands of posts over at rv.net about chinese generators.... they seem to be getting quieter and better..... My question is where is the best place to get one? Which one is the best one to get? I think I would like to get one and build an enclosure for it to reduce the sound even more. I am not really that concerned about noise most of the time but would like to be able to run a 8000 btu ac unit or a heater. Other load would include a small air compressor for inflating tires or flourescent worklights.

I would like to buy a Honda generator but I cannot justify that much money and the coleman generators are just obnoxious.

The closest thing to a campground that this will be used in is an ATV park or racetrack, so noise shouldnt be a problem.

Pep Boys and Harbor Freight are two that come to mind.

 

i bought one at harbor freight for under 300.00 that runs my Coleman air conditioner/heater--tv and computer. Built a "well" in the floor(rear) of my trailer and can't hear it run up front

 

Which number generator did you use??

I have been considering their generator that does not come with an engine.

I have an "obnoxious" Coleman BlackMax powered by a 13hp Honda. (PM0496500)6500W RUN / 8125 W SURGE. Bought for less than $900 @ Sam's club. If obnoxious means good on gas , quiet, and reliable, then that is what I have.

 

My informal observations at various coampgrounds have shown the Chinese generators to be quieter than just about anything else other than the Onan Microquiet's and Honda Eu's.

Checker Auto Parts has a new model with a RV plug built in for under $325, and you can find them on eBay with electric start for under $400.

 

Well, I bought one today.... found quite a good price on it... its 3500 watt peak 3000 rated with a 120/240 switch so that all power can be pulled on 120 or 240. I loaded it up with some resistive load of lights and it seemed to do fine. it held the voltage right between 118-122. I do not know what the waveform looks like on it, but im sure the lights wont care.

I hope the waveform is clean enough to run some fans and a heater. If I am going to run my laptop away from power, I run it off an inverter in the truck. I am certain the inverter power will be cleaner than the generator's power anyway.

I will use it and give a report back here so that everyone else knows what I think of it.

 

I have a Kipor KGE3500ti which is similar to the Honda EU3000. Very quiet, has smart throttle and paid $900 delivered. 80% of the parts are said to be interchangeable with the Honda.
