8,900 lbs.??

My 99 2500 is registered as

6,145 lbs. EW
6,500 lbs. GW
10,000 lbs. GVWR

Yet my owner's manual lists the GVWR as 8,800 lbs.

This weight stuff confuses me,,,,,,,,, glad I don't have to haul for a living!

Dennis, you're probably paying too much for your registration. Get that thing reclassified for whatever the door sticker says. I'm registered light (8,500 vs. the 10,100 GVW) because it's cheaper. It still gives me more legal capacity than I use since my truck is just a commuter vehicle/play toy.

Hmmmph, I dunno, but I think if you're getting paid to work the truck vs. pulling for pleasure, its a whole new game.

My little ole 2500 has a GVWR on the registration as 7000. Shoot, its 500 lbs heavier than that right now sitting in the driveway. DC says GVWR is 9000.

Then again, my old CC F350 dooley was also registered as 7000.

I've got regular plates on it and I pay the same as I do for the CJ-5 and wife's Camaro. I think someone along the line from the time I bought the truck new (the dealer applied for the tags) and when I purchased the vanity plates RATTLIN (a couple of months after having the truck) made a typo,,,,,,,,,,,,, So far, no ill effects,,,,,,,,, so I guess I'll leave well enough alone.

Here in NC, I need to have plates for the maximum weight I'll see... if I never towed or carried big loads, I could get 8000lb tags... But, I need to add in the weight of the truck, the trailer, and whatever's on the trailer, too! the tags aren't cheap.
