Can truck batteries be charged from float charger on trailer battery?

I have a float charger connected to my utility trailer battery which is currently NOT connected to my truck batteries. I'm wondering if/when I connect my trailer battery to the constant hot lead from the truck if the truck batteries will charge via that float charger?

Is there a diode or relay that would block voltage going from the trailer toward the truck batteries?

Any electrical wizards out there who can think of a wiring/amp limitation that would make this a bad idea? i.e. can a decent float charger charge 3 batteries with 2 of them a fair distance away?

Thanks!

I would use two float chargers in this situation. one for the truck, one for the trailer and keep them seperate. One float charger will probably not work on this setup and the wiring was not designed for it.

Just my $0.019

Good question! I don't know of a diode inline .... but never looked! The wires should be plenty heavy for a float type charger. Put a voltmeter on the truck battery note voltage hook up to the trailer with the charger ...give it some time... and see if you get a voltage increase....

Simple answer - - yes - - if, as you contemplated, you do not have an isolator. That is an aftermarket in Dodge - - so, if you didn't put one in, it will work. Put a meter on your truck battery, read it carefully, put on the charger and re-read the meter. You will see a slight change in voltage.
