Can I pull this?

I am in the process of buying a Case 450 bulldozer and a 20' pintle hitch low boy trailer, and I need to know if my truck will pull this thing. I think the dozer weighs about 18,000#. I may be getting a backhoe also, and it weighs about the same, mabe a little more. Will my drop hitch with a pintle latch hold up to this much weight?

I am guessing from the tire size that it is a 2500, if so I would not do it for more than a very short distance. My Dad tows a 17500 pound boat and trailer combo, but he has a dually. You will probably be 24,000 without the truck.

i wouldn't trust the stock hitch, i had to pull mine off and brace it up. my 36' pintal hitch trailer was starting to rip the stock hitch apart. mike

It will pull it, but it will be dangerous, I have pulled my 450 home before when the two ton broke and it is too much to be doing it all the time, my 450 was a 85 model straight 450 with the 202 motor and it scaled in at 14700 lbs, my 580 case backhoe wieghs more, I am sure but have not ever had it over the scales.I would suggest to work them till you come across a good ole two ton. Goodluck,,,Rick

It can be exciting watch your speed, watch the positioning of the load also, youll need enough on the tongue to stay stable and still keep a majority of the weight on the trailer axles. I did it with a forklift, 21000 load behind my truck. Just becareful, i dont want to hear about a DTR member getting on the 5pm news.

I wouldn't do it. I'd get a gooseneck trailer.

Either way you will be over 26,000#...

Wouldn't trust the stock hitch, had trouble with the one that came on my dad's truck (the bracket broke). And all he did with it was pull a cattle chute every day that had about 350 lbs. of tongue weight. But if you had a really good hitch installed, the trailer was going to be supporting almost all the weigh, it had good brakes, and you are confident in your towing ability then you would probably be ok. My prefrence however would be to go with a gooseneck, and you would certainly be better off with duals. Whatever you do make sure you have good brakes all around (truck and trailer).
