I just spent about an hour reading this post on rv.net. Good Lord you have a great rig. What did you give this one up for? It appears to have everything you need or could imagine. Next time I have a problem trying to get a camper, 2 jeeps, 4 quads, 2 dirt bikes, 2 dogs, a wife, and little girl somewhere I'll call you. That is a very impressive build!

Thanks, for the compliment.
There are a few reasons that I decided to get rid of it. All I sold was the truck camper. The kids were getting to the age that they wanted to do there on thing, and now they have moved out. Then we get to the 460 in the Ford truck. The exhaust manifold on the passenger side give me fits. I repaired the broken bolts 3 times and had to repair the head once. I was not going to fix it again, and I did not want another dually. I wish I had done a little more research on the 2001 fuel problem on the dodge before I bought it. I believe if a manufacture has an engineering flaw, that they should compensate in some way to keep people from having a sour taste about them. Also, a word in the title of this discussion “redneck” says it all. I was ready to step up to a nicer setup. I am back to making 2 trips when I go camping, but oh well.

Can't you use a 5ver and flat tow the Jeep?

Nope. Besides flat towing only works if you didn't break the axles on the trail that weekend.

Also with 38" tires it doesn't track well and at $300 per tire I don't really want to flat tow anyway.

AWESOME post. I will be following this! I never thought of putting a smaller camper that has shot running gear onto a Equipment Trailer! Great idea! I have been looking for a larger camper to basically cut the back off and put a door in (custom toy hauler) but this may be a better idea! Keeps the dirty quads OUT of the clean camper!

I'm going today to look at a 23' 5th wheel to put on my 38' 5th wheel frame. I need room for a 19' jet boat and trailer, co may have to extend the lenght to just shy of the max 43'. Also planning to dove (or Beaver) tail it some for load angle.

At least I'm not the only one thinking this way....

Wow, how much does that siding work cost per sq/ft?

That is really a nice set up.

Ever think about putting storage up under the wells and closing them in?

Thanks for the compliments. The siding is just your typical .030" aluminum, painted one side, used on many enclosed trailers. It comes in 4 x 8's. I couldn't tell you exactly how it costs by the sheet but I do know it isn't that much especially when compared to the rest of the RV siding options - it was less than a quarter of the cost. I also like it because repairs are simplified when dealing with individual panels of siding.

Yes, the sides are getting boxed in. I'm just waiting for the door assemblies. I was going to build my own but ended up getting a good deal on professionally made doors and frames that I couldn't pass up from the same guy that did the siding. The sides are going to be used to house the genny, compressor, camping junk and so on.

Where did you get the siding at? My friend has some that needs replaced bad on his camper. He contemplated re-siding the whole thing!

The local trailer shop I used supplied all of the siding materials. I know he makes a trip to Elkhart, IN once a month to get most of his supplies as there is nobody local that sells building supplies for enclosed trailers around here. Prior to meeting him, I went to a few RV dealers and my jaw dropped when I found out how much they wanted to charge to do RV siding. I was quoted between $14-$20 / sq. ft for materials and labour from three different shops. My head was just spinning that day.

How much did your guy charge you? I assume that would be in canadian dollars.

I'm going to sock away some money to build one and think I just might frame up my own and get it sided.

Ok guys back on topic. If you've got a question then take it to a PM please.

Made a deal on a 1988 23ft Rustler today. The "body" is 15.5ft so that should leave 14.5ft of deck space for the Jeep. This should be a good amount of deck space so that I'm not trying to squeeze between the Jeep and trailer when chaining the Jeep down.

And cause everyone likes pics:

BTW if you ever think about putting laminate flooring in an older RV, think it over VERY carefully. The new lighter color laminate actually doesn't look that great against the older darker wood paneling. Plus its TOO much wood.

They certainly loved wood paneling back then didn't they .

Looks like a good deal for being 20 years old.
