bucking while towing
bucking while towing
I was towing a trailer today, about 11,500 lbs, on a gooseneck.
When I accelerated in almost any gear, if I got on it too hard, it would start bucking like I was letting the clutch in & out. it is really bad if you hit a good bump when accelerating.
see sig for truck.
Any ideas ?
Do I need to redistribute the load ? truck only squatted a few inches.

Check your throttle linkage rod and springs for wear. The parts can still be ordered from Chrysler. There was a recall for this and checking the chrysler web site with your VIN may net you a free repair. I just had the recall done on my 95 with 240K on the ticker yesterday. The first tech botched the job miserably and the truck bucked like crazy empty at light throttle or going over a speed bump. The link rod was loose on the inj pump end allowing the throttle pedal to stay in one place and the bouncing was making the inj pump throttle lever bounce around. I looked like a 16 year old learning to drive. Second tech got it fixed up right.
The recall kit comes with new throttle cable, attachment nipples for the cables, and throttle rod end links. Takes about an hour to install.

It could be the truck; but, some trailers are bad for this.
I couldn't really tell from your description what is going on.
I used to have to pull an EBY 28' X 8' aluminum stock trailer with 8.25x15 singles that would start surging back and forth for reasons known only to the trailer, especially under accelleration.
I have experienced this with a couple other trailers.
Try a different trailer of similar size and see what happens.

Well, I have never had this trailer do it before.
And the recall was done about a month or so ago.
This is the 1st time towing since the recall.
All springs are there, none broke.
the only difference this time, is the load is about 1400 lbs more.

Where was the weight placed? If most of the weight was tongue weight your bound for a bumpy ride. Where is your ball placed? If your g/n ball is center over the axle it will be a bumpy ride, if it is foward of the axle its a better ride.. I've been in a dually with the g/n over center of the axle and it felt like I had whiplash by the end of the trip
