breakaway battery charging

When you pull the break-away with the trailer plugged in to the truck, it sends 12v not only to the brakes but also to the controller, which is already getting 12v from the truck.

I use a small solar panel (like for a feeder) to trickle charge my break-away battery. I only pull it out and run a regular charge on it once or twice a year.

You should check the system often. Its there for a reason.

Yeah, very well could be. What I should have said in my post was, "I have no choice but to accept their dictates or take the whole thing apart down to the circuit level and see if what they say is really true, which I have neither the time nor inclination to do."

If you have the room for it I'd loose the little battery and connect a full size 12vdc and incorperate in the LQ. Just a thought.

Yeah, I have a RVbattery already on the trailer, I going to change that around this weekend. That little one is a pain in the ***
