Boat towing????

I’m looking at a new boat with a 9’6” beam I know the truck will have no trouble towing it .My question is will this be much of a legal an issue since it is over 8’6”. Most of the towing we be in my home state of Delaware along RT 1 toll road with EZPASS thru the high speed toll. Do the police pay much attention to people towing boats non-commercially ?

Here in California the CHP seems to take particular delight in citing non commercial boat haulers! They pay particular attention to hitch weight ratings, tow vehicle GVRW and wide load concerns let alone mirrors, braking systems, and proper licencing.

Don't ask me how I know this..................

I'd contact your local Highway patrol to get the specifics. The free information will save you big $$$$.

Here in Utah a wide load permit is required for that big of a boat. I don't know what an annual fee would be but it is $25 for a 24hr pass.

Ask me how I know? I helped a friend by pulling his boat up to the yacht club:

That will be no problem. Been down thru there many times with a 10'6" beam.
If you check you can haul 120"s on fed road without permit. Great fishing in Lewes.

I checked . It's 102" not 120 . http://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/sw/permit_report.htm

I towed my 25 Parker (9'6" beam) for 12 years all up and down the east coast, only problem i ever had was the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel, they wanted 60 bucks to tow it across, other than that not a word said anywhere.

I don't see it being a problem. There are SEVERAL Fountains, Donzi's, and the like on trailers around here that don't seem to have an issue.

My next one will be 9'6, I won't think twice about towing any and everywhere without any type of permits......

Don't forget the bumper sticker for the back of the boat that says:

Don't worry there's a Cummins in front of this!

I have towed loads that wide for years. Never had an issue.

I think the reason is the beam is elevated to the sight line of traffic. I just don't think they notice the width. I don't. It's over my mirrors.
