Blown tires/Looking for LT's

I Blew two tires over the weekend on the 5ver and lost half the bottom side of my camper (cosmetic stuff, Fender side panel) I'm running on regular ST trailer tires that were in good condition. I swore to myself that I'll never run long distance again on ST's. Anybody know a good LT tire (225 75 R15) I like to run on the fast side around 65-70 mph. Any info let me know

I didn't check all their tires but I get mine from Tire Rack. We have a local warehouse so no shipping in Shreveport. No one I have found beats their prices. Your closest warehouse would be in Southbend IN. Also they have a great spec sheet on all tires and click on reviews to get all the customer feedback on a certain tire. Here is the link h**p://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=225%2F&ratio=75&diameter=15&sta rtIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemar k=1&RunFlat=All&x=55&y=6

Man, if only you had 16" wheels. I have a set of four Goodyear G614 235/85/R16's in the classifieds. They are a 14ply load range "G"! I have another four on one of my trailers now and they are solid as a rock.

I would strongly suggest that you buy some 16" wheels to eliminate the tire problems with 15" wheels on 5th wheel trailers. Many people have had to go to 16s before they could stop the blowouts.

Check out the Maxxis brand. I've heard real good things about them.

Price in not an option right now I don't care what it cost. I have 6 lug 15's I really don't want to change them. I would like to go to a LT tire but I'll consider 16's as a last option. The camper's gross is 11,500 I would think 3000 pound rated tires would do. Let me know what you think

I do not think you can find a 3000# rated 15" tire for your trailer. It seems about 2500# rating is as high as they go.

However you can find 3000# rated 16" LT tires which should eliminate your tire problems.

Just go to any RV forum and read the horror stories about 15" tires on larger 5th wheel trailers.

The only solution that I have ever heard is to go to 16" wheels and LT tires. Don't waste your money buying more 15" tires.

Well, with the advice above maybe the 16" are in your future. I'll make you a sweet deal on the ones I have if you decide to step up.

You can still find size 7.00-15 bias-ply tires in LR-E, if you look hard enough.

Once I convince someone to ditch the radials, in favor of BIAS, their tire troubles seem to fade away.

I have read several good replys on the Maxxis tires. This one is the highest weight rating tire that they carry in a 15" diameter.....http://www.maxxistires.com/products/...ail.asp?id=118

Hope ths helps

i had the same problem last week with my 5er, i only blew one tire though so no damage to the rig

i wound up going with another trailer tire though because on the lack of LT tires in a 225/75/15

the rig came with a 4 ply bias rated at 1750 lbs @ 50 psi, 4 tires had barely enough load capacity to handle the trailer empty weight of 6800 lbs

i replaced the with carlisle steel belted d range 225/75/15 from discount tires
they have double steel belts and a 8 ply sidewall, 2550 load rating @ 65 psi
10200 lbs load capacity on the tires now

i realize they are not the end all to be all of trailer tires but they are a big upgrade from what i started with

be carefull trying to use LT. tires if your trailer doesn't have xxx/75/xx size tires
they may rub. most trailer tires are xxx/85/xx and there may be a clearance issue i found out the hard way on a 16' car trailer it just didn't fit and rubbed the sides very hard

The bears end of LT tires will be -85- series.

Only the 225-75-16, 245-75-16, and 265-75-16 are very common in the 75 series.

For trailer use, 235-85-16 or 215-85-16 are very common, and narrower than the -75- series.
