Bigger / Safer Tire ?
Bigger / Safer Tire ?
I have a 2WD with leveling kit and 265/75R16. I want
to go with a taller tire to fill up the wheel well. Has anyone
tried a 285/75R16 on a 2WD. Also the tire I have now is rated
at "E" load. The tire I am looking at is the General Tire All Terrain
285/75R16 rated "D" load , on sale at Sears this week for $109.50 ea.
I don't want to risk safety over "looks". Will this taller sidewall feel
"skwishy" and unstable. I only pull a 6500# TT once a month.

I don't know if this will help but a buddy of mine has Bridgestone Revos LT285/75/16 D on his F350 SRW crewcab. I believe the load rating is equal to the stock Firestones. He says the truck rides smoother, better traction and tows about the same.

i am running the 285/75/16s on my dually with a 2'' spacer in the rear. these tires ride so much better than the load range e's i had. they are miles ahead in the wet. and they are load range d but haul as much weight as the e's i had, 3k plus per tire. i went with the yokohama's, 720 out the door for 6 mounted on the truck.
