In bed plug for 5ver/goose

I discovered the other day that they have been enforcing the in bed plug thing in BC. I have always used the plug at the rear hitch and ran the lead over the tailgate. Never had a problem but I just installed a plug and play wire harness that avoids having to hack into the factory harness. What does everyone else do?

I haven't heard of that law before... you have to have the plug in the box in BC?

I cut into the factory harness and soldered and heat shrinked a 7 way in the bed. I drilled a hole in the rear driver side bed upright and mounted the plug there. I also used a GM style 7 way harness that plugs directly into the female receptacle, that was so when it gets damaged, (which it has) I just change out the receptacle. Plug and play makes it so much easier.

I heard something about it last year, then in the last week from two places, one was a truck accessory place that does a lot of work and escort trucks and one last night, the dealer where we bought our new 5ver, I was trying my truck under it for hitch height and they mentioned it. I didn't research it I thought just install it and not take a chance.

If you buy a kit make sure you have the factory plugs that it does in to under the bed.

The Valley Trailer harnesses are year and model specific.Plugs into back of your bumper plug and has a pigtail up to where you want to maunt your bed plug.Took me less than an hour to install.

I searched it out at ICBC, insurance company here and it doesnt say anything about where the plug has to be, Ill try and ask some of the cops and see where they stand on it, thanks for the heads up anyways.

On my last truck I bought a 4 ft wire with the trailer plug on it. I pluged it into the bumper plug and ran it up to the bed just inside the tailgate. Cut the hole for the fiver plug in the bed and installed it in that manner. No splicing into the wire harness.

The current truck I have was done the other way and I hope they did it right like was stated above.

Can you post a link to the page with the wiring harness? I poked around Mopar.com and couldn't find the harness.

Much appreciated.

Just go to a trailer supply or decent auto parts store and they will hand you the correct harness that plugs in between your bumper 7-pin trailer-light socket and the factory harness end. You just need to cut a hole for the receptacle in the inner bed. If I were doing it again I'd cut in behind the wheel well. I put mine in front of the wheel well.
