AZ -> NJ trip done
Just got done with a 2500 mile trip from phoenix to NJ right near new york city. the trip was relatively uneventful... which i won't complain about.
we took 17 north to 40 east, 44 east up to 70 east, 71 north and then 76 east to 80 east.
i was grossing about 12,000 and got somewhere around 17 MPG... wasn't paying great attention to mileage. probably ranged between 16 and 18. the price of fuel went steadily down from 2.75 to as low as 2.45... average was probably around 2.60 or so. we hit up mostly the flying J where i was able to "pay at the pump" to get a 5% discount. i was going 70mph with the a/c on the entire time. the girlfriend's jetta got a soild 45+ MPG too. the truck definitely pulled well and rode a lot nicer loaded up than empty.
we used a pair of $30 uniden GMRS radios to talk which worked like a charm. the batteries lasted all day long and charged at night.
hotels we stayed in were gross except for a Hampton Inn one night that was pleasantly clean and had a nice breakfast. the best western and 2 comfort inn's were pretty much gross. unfortunately now that i have to be proper and polite to my little lady, asking her to sleep on the rear bench of my truck doesn't fly too well (i tried it once and she was a grouch the next day!). she is not exactly the road warrior i am so it took us a half day, 3 full days, and then another half day making it four nights. in general, i hate hotels and would much rather stay in my own mess than someone elses dirt but i guess this is what you have to do some time.
overall, i think we did ok. $1000 moving 2500 miles--and that included fuel, food, hotels and the u-haul trailer rental.
gotta say hitting the open road reminds me of how nice it is sometimes. gives you a lot of time to think and enjoy the simple things.
Gotta find a way to make driving my Cummins my job...

Welcome Back, Patrick, and hope to see you at some local events. MDTDC Fall Brawl in Dillsburg coming up in October, then next year, Carlisle again (both the Mopar show and the All Truck show).

Thanks guys - I'd love to hit up some events. My fiance and I found a a nice place in Hawthorne for now Mike.
I just ordered an Edge EZ too... I had to test out the new address... make sure mail actually comes to it
Plus Ineed it to keep up with the NJ drivers right? And with it comes better economy and I'll need that with $3+/gallon diesel!

well here, this might be of use for you, I would call ahead and check prices before the trip from hawthorne to wayne, only bout a 30 minute ride but to save 30 cents a gallon it may be worth it if it is a current price. http://www.newjerseygasprices.com/index.aspx?fuel=D

Maybe it was too bleepin hot for him during the summer
I have to admit that this has been a hot one and I've been here 10 years or so. NJ, didn't you get your ride stolen some time ago after moving here? Thats not the same truck you had correct?
J Body,
If your still reading this thread, I have bad ball joints and am bringing my truck in next week to get em replaced. Is that common on these for a 2004? My truck hardly ever leaves the road except for an occasional job site. I asked about using aftermarket ones because I was told that the stock ones are not greaseable. They said I can only get new stock ones even if I wanted to pay more for aftermarket. Woops sorry for the threadjacking.
