any RV/boat/auto transporters here?
any RV/boat/auto transporters here?
I'm interested in buying a 12 valve 3500 and using it this summer to haul rvs, boats, cars, horse trailers, or whatever to hopefully get close to paying for the truck. I also want to see the country and drive a big truck. Problem is I have no experience, and am only 18 years old. I do learn fast and work hard, and love driving big trucks. Anyone have any advice on how to get started? Most transporters require you to have 2 years expericence, but everyone has to start somewhere. I'm going to college in the fall, so I won't be in it for the long haul. Thanks.
hauiling business
I am interested in starting a small business hauling also. Really for the same reasons, I would like to see the country and pay my expenses. I am older 55 and retired now. Any suggestions ? I already have a truck an 05 dodge 2500 4x4 with the cummins engine.

YEP! Everyone needs a place to start BUT age is the problem, not to mention you would have to pass a field driver test with their rig. THAT is not a learning curve, you most likely will not even get out on the asphalt.
Best Bet is the second seat- view the country, learn by observation and earn meal money. I do oversize load transport of boats with the truck in the signature and our custom trailer. Please understand ANYONE can drive 55 on a straight road. Experienced drivers are needed for the other idiots on the road; loading and unloading; paperwork, DOT/ICC checks, marinas in my case.
Lots of autohaul sites on the web, but average JOE isn't gonna hire you. Advertise locally if that is what you want to do, but take out a million dollar rider on your insurance. You have to have insurance to transport even YOUR OWN equipment......not that it means anything but I did own a towing company for ten years- little experience there to say the least on how to deal with things...... GOOD LUCK, God Bless and enjoy college!!!!hey, THANK your parents too!

I would check out someone like vehiclevalet.net. You will have a trailer with living quarters or a camper to sleep in which will make your life more comfortable. If not, then check out the RV haulers... e.g. Horizon Transport.
I was trying to get some hauls for FEMA trailers and most places you had to have three year old truck or newer and had to be atleast 21. it sucks I know, I live on a farm have been driving trucks and trailers since I could reach the peddles, but they have their rules.
