This part of the article:
Wolfenbarger said Patton told him the accident was caused when a larger motor home sped by his vehicle. The wind created by the passing vehicle buffeted the trailer Patton was pulling, causing him to lose control.

The motor home Patton described did not stop and has not been located
Confuses me.

Why look for the "Other vehicle"?

Unless there was a collision, or the other vehicle swerved into his lane, it looks like too small of a vehicle for too much trailer, or lack of proper equipment (sway bars or whatever for the load) was the cause of the incident.

I think you guys are dead on, too much trailer for whats pulling it combined with the lack of attention while pushing the limit usually = disaster.
However his hitch looks like it was properly mounted

I Has dating this gal that got a new horse trailer to haul her 2 horses with a older dodge dakota (small truck) . I had told her to get a trailer with electric brakes and she needs a 3/4 ton truck.

Will she got a trailer with surge brakes that didnt work and just doent get it about useing her little dakota truck to haul horese that probably way twice as much as her truck.

First time she trys to stop that horse trailer its going to jack knife her right off the road and off a cliff.

Her way or no way..... see ya.

As much as I like our Durango... It's not a tow vehicle. I can't imagine towing a TT with an Explorer an not expect that to happen.

Maybe it was the tires on the Explorer that made him lose control.

Not enough butt.

I do not know why they are looking for the motor home that passed him as all he was doing was driving down the highway and probably did not see what happened to the Explorer. That reminds me of the complaining and whining about our trucks and their bumper height because if someone hits us in front they are going to get hurt like it is our fault for having a vehicle that will protect us as well as doing a good job. The owner of the Explorer should be cited for endangering public safety by not having an adequate tow vehicle in front of the trailer. He not only endangered his own self and family but was endangering all who were on the highway as he was traveling. They would be quick to pull us over if they think that we are over weight but they turn a blind eye toward too small for towed weight. Not fair.

Just saw a bad accident tonight on the way home from eating out. A 4X4 lifted superduty SC LB ran a red light and T-boned a four door sedan as the two girls pulled away with their green light. There are buildings on all four corners so it's hard to see out but the lights are easy to see. The guy's Rottwieler got thrown from the SD and was running away from the wreck while fire and paramedics were on their way. The passenger girl was out of the car crying and bleeding while the driver girl was pinned in the car bleeding like crazy. Nothing like getting a wench three feet off the ground rammed into the side of your head at 45mph.
