Alcan in late april
Alcan in late april
Anybody driven the Alcan in late april? If so, what were the roads like? I am getting a new truck from dave smith, i really do not want to spend $2700 to ship it up to alaska when i can do it for $1700 on the high end. Any input would be great. Thanks

I drove the Alaska Highway first of May - - crossed to TOK on May 14th. Roads were fine other than frost heaves not repaired, but they were marked with the infamous white buckets with flags. Snow still on the sides of the road and lakes frozen. I think that early in the year depends on that particular year's weather. Been a weird year - - might be great - - might be 10' deep. It's a toss up.

Bob,
Thanks for the info. If i cannot get the truck shipped up here i am probably going to try for late may now. I will not be towing anything so i am not worried about the heaves that much.

We are coming back up in 2013 pending who gets elected as president and if we still have any money in the bank. HORRORS. We plan on being on mile marker 0 on May 5. We will not hurry - - there will be several of us convoying. Can't wait to do it again. Had so much fun.
