air bags

air bags

i got firestone air bags on my truck. when loaded down with the gooseneck and skid steer. going down the road it bounces. the air pressure is at 60psi. it not any better at 50 or 40psi. what do you guy's thank

I would take them down to 20 PSI.

Depending on which bags you have, 60 psi is like having an extra 3000 lbs worth of spring rate on your vehicle (plus the springs you already have). If you don't have at least that much weight on the back of your truck, yes it will bounce. I think its due to the shocks not having enough rebound damping.

My truck bounced if I have more air in the bags than what I needed. Example, my loaded dump trailer had a tongue weight of 1500 lbs and I had 50 lbs of air in the bags. Each pound of air can carry 50 pounds. That, added to my regular springs made for a VERY bouncy ride (and my wife asking me WHAT have you done to the truck). I dropped the pressure to 20 psi and the normal ride returned. If I don't have any weight in the truck, I run the bags empty.
