Thumbs up 5.9 Towing capacity

Does anyone out there tow anything heavy with their 5.9 Quad cab, no dually....I am looking at trying to tow my toy hauler that I tow at an average of 13k to 15k twice a month....
is this reasonable with the 3.73 ratio??

guessing you got a 3rd gen with the 3.73's you shouldnt have any prob with that weight as long as you got the suspension.

Thumbs up

that is what I was thinking but I have the option to purchase the 5.9 or the 6.7 and I was leaning towards the 5.9 for reliability reasons.....sounds like they worked most of those bugs out already??

Your fine with that gearing, if you hit a few hills, just down shift.
And, you'll need a chip of some kind also. Now that I finally figured out how to use my XZT box I'm happyer pulling a 14.5K TH

If you have not bought yet, get the 3500, 5.9, manual. The weight you are talking about is not within range of 2500, although they will pull it. With the 3500 you get tires, suspension and way more truck. The 2500, depending on pin weight, will need airbags, I suspect. The 3500 is way more stable(with duals).
Do yourself a favor! Get the big truck!!

I agree, I used to have a 05' 2500 and it pulled my 10K enclosed, but add some wind, it sucked. The dually's are the way to go. Any trans will pull that weight, but the 6spd. will like it more.

That is about half the weight I usually pull and I've never had a issue.

The only difference is a set of overloads and two more tires. The overloads on the 3500 are pretty weak from what I've seen and most people around here run airbags on the 3500 too. I pull 28-30k all the time and never have had a issue, the Dodge truck is stronger than the other brands.

I pull heavy also. Never had a single issue, even in very high winds and on some steep grades. Coming down pink mountain on the alcan in February was interesting, but it would have been with a dually also. lol

About time someone said it. I pull daily with a 03 Ram Dually for work and I much rather pull the same loads with my personal truck. The dually seems to bounce around to much for me. I to pull 25-30k once or twice a week and I like pulling the loads with my 2500 more than the 3500. I will admit the 03 dually is a gutless V-10.

The only difference in the dually and 2500 in any brand is bigger hips and two more tires exactly.Tell you the truth it dont make a difference what truck or engine you got .I used to pull dozers with my chevy z 71 until one day I took off and my frame sheared and my truck broke in two pieces.I mean the trailer was still hooked up to the bed along with the rear axle but the cab and front end of the truck was 20 feet away up in the air with me in it.!!!

when i bought my truck the only difference between the 2500 and the 3500 was the overload spring in the rear. axles are the same, brakes, tires etc. of course if you get the dually you get two more tires...

I pull my 5v'er with no remorse with my SRW.....I actually have too say though I am quite dissapointed with the drop in the rear when i load up the trailer....my 02 2500 had overloads, and the rear dropped 1.5"...this 3500 drops like 4" in the back

I have been pulling 9500 #'s with a 2500. Tow package no sag. Pin weight 1,640 #'s. I prefer srw because it is easier to park.
