3.73 verse 4.11 rear end

I have a 1996 3500 dually with a 3.54 does really well 23-24 hwy mileage and about 9 to 14 towing 32 foot TT about 8800#

I like the non towing mileage the 3.54 gets however the newer Dodges just have the 3.73 and 4.11 How much difference is the mileage between the 3.73 and the 4.11 on the average?

On long hills around here (Kansas) and around Fort Smith (Arkansas) the old 3.54 drops down a little and grunts!!!!!!! still maintains about 55 mph.

Lets face it - with the fuel prices the way they are the towing will be a lot less for me this year and for now on.
What would you do 3.73 or 4.11 just towing about 24 trips a year??

appreciate your input

See you down the road -- John H

My truck has 3:73 rears with a six speed and I usually average 18 mpg empty and towing my travel trailer around 12-14 mpg. I am quite pleased with this setup. I have had both the 3:54 and 4:11, and I kinda favor the 3:73's the best just due to the fact that I think their a great all around gear (towing and highway). Seems to have the low end grunt that you need but also is a nice cruising gear while getting on down the road. Just my 2 cents worth.

It seems to me that the G.R. could be lower becouse the eng. has enough power without moding and then theres moding , unless your towing heavy equipt. then it may , so I'ld go for the low GR and mod to your hearts content.

I run the 3:73's and i tow about 80% of the time and its never very light and run a lot thru the hills. i will not have one with 4:10's, my first one had them and I didn't like the way drove as far as speed it would only go 78 on the interstate it was a 95. get the 3:73 ratio and get a light chip and get the better mileage. Thats just my thought.
