Increase rear end verse installing Banks

Need some advice.
Currently driving a 2009 2500 6.7 Diesel 4x4 SB with a 3.73 rear end.
Looking to improve towing when I finally buy my 5th wheel. I am thinking a 4.10 rear end would help pulling the hills, as Im concerned about overheating issues I might have. Others have said installing Banks systems would be better.
Not that up to date on these things.
I do know neither will increase the weight I can pull,so thats not a question.

How much weight are you pulling? Also, Banks parts are laughed at on this website. You will be recommended a Smarty Programmer by pretty much everyone on this website.

Around 13k, not much over that for sure. I am open to anything that will minimize overheating and good pulling power.
Where in Minnesota are you, i grew up in St.Paul.

I have a 08, 4X4 with the 68RFE 6 spd auto and 3:73 diff's. I have installed the Mag-Hytec diff covers and transmission pan on the truck, plus I am deleted using the Smarty and 5"TBE with the EGR blocked. I did the deletes in Aug-09 after towing my 5er out west in the badlands in SD. I wanted a base line to compare against when I deleted and made all of my modifications to my truck.
I have towed two different 5ers both around an 11K GVW on the 5er and a combined GCVW of 18,000 with the truck and 5er attached. I have never over heated with this combination, the highest I have on water temps was 200F. I have towed in the Smoke Mountains and I towed last year in the Rockies with no issues.
I would not spend the money on a differential change and instead add a transmission cover with extra capacity and diff covers if you are worried about overheating theses components.

Jim W,

Im really not well versed in the information you just gave me. I got the Mag-Hytec differential covers and larger tranny pan, not a bad idea. So just what did you delete--the EGR. What is 5"TBE. OK, when you get done rolling on the floor laughing, do you know what your tranny temp was B4 the additions and then afterwards? What type of Smarty would you suggest?
Thanks for the input.

No, I do not laugh at anyone who will ask questions. I laugh at people who pretend they think they know what they are doing and fail something and then complain about it.
Ok so here goes.
I deleted the stock exhaust system with the NOX filter, Cat and the diesel particular filter (DPF). The TBE stands for Turbo Back Exhaust. I then followed the instructions from Smarty on installing the S67 with ME software, deleting the EGR using block off plates and disconnecting the electrical connections as required.
When I was stock driving the Needles Highway in SD around Custer State Park, I reached 265F on the transmission without the 5er attached. I was using the transmission and exhaust brake to slow the truck down instead of braking on the decent grades. After I installed the Mag-Hytec transmission pan I have never reached 200F regardless of what I was doing with the truck either towing or backing the 5er up in to a tight spot.
I would recommend the Smarty JR for must user. The only reason I bought the Smarty S67 was the JR was not available for use at that time. The JR will do everything required to improve performance and fuel mileage that you will require.

With my DD maghytec trany pan pulling my 5th wheel, in AZ at about 90 deg. outside temp, my trany never went over 185, only around 12k pounds trailer weight though. also have the DD mag. rear diff cover. The only time I hate the DD trany pan is when changing the fluid, 24 quarts when doing full fluid exchange.

Geno's Garage sells them for the 47RE, 48RE (270.75 +shipping) or the 68RFE ($280+shipping). You can contact them at genosgarage.com or 1-800-755-1715.
What is nice about this pan is the ability to add additional 3 qts of fluid and has a port for transmission temp sensors to be added. The pan also has a magnetic drain plug, this will keep from spilling a lot of Tran’s fluid when changing the filters and transmission fluid.
