28' enclosed trailer capacity
28' enclosed trailer capacity
What do you think? Can i fit the contents of a one bedroom apartment into this trailer plus my toyota avalon? I just made a trip from L.A. to Texas and then to N.Y. I rented a 16' box truck with a car carrier. I have to make this trip again. I figure I just buy my own trailer. I have my CTD to pull it.
What do you think?
Thanks

Assuming your trailer has the GVWR to handle the load, YOU may be OK, but I know my 1br apt. won't fit in a 28' with 12' going to the Avalon. Our work trailer is a 6x12 with a height of 6' and there is no way it could handle my stuff. Your's will be wider and taller, but I would not be able to fit in there.
Once you put a King bed and full size sofa, you are gonna be hitting the limit. I think the best thing for you to do is take a bunch of measurements before you blow a few thousand on a trailer.

i just looked at goosenecks. This seems like a strong possibility. I see some monstrous goosenecks running around being pulled by 1 ton trucks. There isn't much left you can stuff in there cuz your weight is already up near the limits, isn't this correct. Thinking of my paricular situation. One car plus furniture.
Thanks

My first thought was how you would secure the Avalon in the trailer but similar posts have come up and several members have used ABF and highly redommend it . http://www.upack.com/default.asp?refnum=MSNUPACK . My son moved furniture from a 3 bedroom apartment plus an ATV for way less than what it would have cost him for a U-Haul
I have a 44' goosneck enclosed trailer, with about a 21' section for the garage (with winch, loading ramps, etc), and the balance an RV section (up front). My trailer weighs 12,000# empty, and has three 5200# axles. The trailer can "haul and hold" more than the 3600# "available" per my GVW RATING. Your car will take 12-14', and depending upon where your axles are placed, and how the trailer rides on your truck, you'll want to place the car in the right place, so that your tongue weight is correct, and as RickG said, you'll need a good way to secure the vehicle from moving. YOu'll also want to secure your belongings - load bars are for sale at every local truck stop, if one is nearby. I have two and they work great for keeping boxes & furniture in place. My gooseneck puts 33% on my ball when empty. My 3500 w/chip & other mods tows the 44' with no problems - I am 61' overall when hooked up - state law maximum is 65'.
I have this trailer and can fit the contents an average house in it. It's 26' w/ a V-nose which gives another 4' up front. I'm sure I could fit what you are looking at in it very easily. You just need the right capacity trailer and knowledge to load it right. Most 28' trailers are at least 10,000 gvw or 14000lb gvw. Most 24' trailers out there are only 7000lb cap which leaves you about 4000lb capacity. That's not much at all... BTW, Most enclosed trailers come with auto tie downs on the floor. Mine has three sets of them. I would bet the 28' has three or four sets in it...

The gooseneck option sounding better. I want to purchase because I'm going to move again, eventually. This move is temporary(18months or so). My car is 17'. A little lost with the weight factor. Car weighs 3400lbs. I have a 01 dually six spd. What is the ceiling on my total weight. Lets say if I get a 44' gooseneck.
Thanks for info.

You should be well within weight limits . You'll want to load the car toward the front of the trailer for best handling . Furniture won't put much weight on the hitch . Check here for trailers http://www.truckpaper.com/listings/f...C35A77D07D1D1F
My Dodge weighs in at 8,200# full fuel and me behind the wheel. My empty 44' goose (with generator and RV section) weights 12,000#. So I am at 20,200# rolling down the road. My truck has a GVWR of 12,200#, the trailer 15,600# = 27,800# (I have a CDL a because the truck and trailer TOGETHER are rated for 26K+ AND the trailer is RATED for more than 10,000#, even EMPTY I need the CDL A). So I can haul (legally within my ratings) 7,600#, no problem with even the heaviest of my toys. If I wanted to exceed my ratings, the rig would certainly haul heavier, but I have no need to as I have the right sized/capacity/rated vehicles for my use.
Those same laws pertain here in Virginia. You need a Class A CDL and DOT Physical card too. That's why I got the 9990lb cap trailer as opposed to the 14000lb gvw. I'm thinking about getting 7000lb axles to put under it though instead of the 5000lb ones.....
Bonshawman...CDL, difficult to attain. At what weight does it make me require such. What is required? Long written exam? road test? where would I get a practice trailer if I needed such...?
Thanks
