Ok, I have read all the areas referencing towing 5th wheels and still not sure if I can handle a larger unit or if there is a fix. I currently have a 03 2500 4x4 Quad 5.9 HO. I have compared it to a 3500 and don't see a great difference between the two. Can I increase the GVWR by adding override springs such as Helwig or air bags? I am loooking at a Open Road with a dry Pin Weight of 2100# and a GVWR of 14,100. My truck weighed in at steering axel 4760#, Drive axel 3000# with full tank, me and the wife. Total weight 7760. The Drive axel weight on the door says 6000#. What is the deal? Help!

 

Unless you can find a shop with DOT/NHTSA authority to recertify your truck, the manufacturer's ratings on the door sticker are legally gospel, despite any modifications to your truck you might make.
