2006 3500 Bed Height

Gents,

Anyone have any problems towing a 5th wheel camper with their 06 3500 4x4 DRW??? I've heard they can be too high. I traded in my 04 Duramax (which had no height issues) The Chevy had a bed height of about 36"...anyone know about how high the bed of an 06 4x4 3500 DRW Quad cab stands??? Any help would be appreacated...I get the truck in about a week...can't wait! Thanks.

JohnBoy, just measured mine for ye. About 58inches. Just had to get my gooseneck horsetrailer raised because of it. I'm thinking about taking some of block spacers out. My 06 looks to have 3 or4? pieces that make a block at bottom of springs. Looks like it could be lowerd maybe an inch or so. I may do it to level truck out for looks and also the bed is too dang high. The fords and dodges have straight frames, where the Chevy dips down for ? cab to sit it and not be so high. Maybe a 5th wheel would sit up high enough not to be an issue. Good luck

I think you guys may be measuring different heights.

Seems like the 36" would be to the bed floor and the 58" would be to the top of the bed. There is no way that there is a 22" difference.

Now, if the bed depth is about 18" then you have 40" on the Dodge which would be a 4" difference. That seems about right.

jonnyboy,

I traded my 05 Chevy 3500 D/A dually 2wd last week for the truck in my signature. I measured bed heights between the 2 and my Dodge sits exactly 2" higher than my Chevy. Also, when I measured from the bed to the top of the bed rails the Dodge is 1/2" taller.

My 32' FW already had a slight "nose up" attitude and I'm really concerned it's going to be worse. I am really hoping that my Dodge's suspension will compress furhter than my Chevy did (it hardly moved). If not I will replace the 215's on my trailer with 235's. If that still won't correct the height I will remove the pin extender off the FW to put even more weight on the truck.

I went from a Ford 1-ton drw, 2-wheel drive, to a Dodge MegaCab 3500 SRW, 4-wheel drive. The Dodge sets a little higher. I was able to lower the Reese hitch enough to make the 5th Wheel level, without getting too close to the sides of the bed. I've pulled in the mountains on very uneven terrain, and never had a problem with it being too close. Much easier than flipping everything on the 5th Wheel.

We shall see... I just ordered a Trailer Saver air hitch, and going to have the reese plates along with a rhino liner put in mid next week. I've been told that the dodge will compress more then the chevy just as "maxed" stated.

I love the truck... Even though the Duramax was good to me and the chevy was a nice truck, I look forward to driving anywhere! And everyone checks the truck out. I"ll post a pic on my signature soon. Can't wait to get a few more break in miles on it so I can hook up the FW and really take a trip.

Thanks to everyone... Semper Fi.
