1,000 lbs tongue weight?
1,000 lbs tongue weight?
Is this something I would be ok doing? I am eyeing this trailer, it is 11,700 GVW but it considers 3,800# payload, which I am unlikely to ever have, so weight wise I think I will be ok, but the tongue weight concerns me. I have the factory hitch right now and think that to tow that trailer routinely, I should get a Class V hitch but in a pinch I can use mine (I do have a WD hitch that will allow 1,000 tongue / 10,000 tow rating).
Of course, the GCVW is 16,000 per book - what nonsense! This means that a 3/4 ton truck can pull 7,000 lbs?.. If that is true one should own a new Tundra with 10,000 lbs rating. Crazy.

There are countless threads to this effect..... If I remember right, the general idea is that you are fine to pull that as long as the hitch and tires and axle weights are all within spec.... the "GCWR" from dodge is not a number the DOT is concerned with..
